Gift Giving Suggestion: For the cook, baker or wannabe on your gift list!
I have tons of cookbooks. Not only are they taking up way too much space on my bookshelves, but the paper pages don't stand up well to my messy tendencies in the kitchen. The Key Ingredient Recipe Reader is the ultimate family cookbook, allowing you to collect all your recipes in one simple, easy-to-use, kitchen safe device. Unlike my iPad, which I don't dare risk ruining while I bake, the reader is spill and splatter-resistant and sits right on your counter-top.
The Key Ingredient Recipe Reader lets home chefs access up to 4,000 recipes at the touch of a screen. The Recipe Reader also syncs with a free KeyIngredient.com account, which allows you to search, download and “cookmark” an unlimited number of recipes online. Just load it with favorite recipes and switch it on. You can even share your personal recipes with others.
Features:
- Wirelessly syncs with your KeyIngredient.com account where you can create and add to your collection
- Create your own cookbooks or add to the pre-existing cookbooks which come pre-populated with a wide selection of recipes
- Three built-in timers
- Search function that makes every recipe easy to find
- Includes a substitution option with a full list of common kitchen substitutions meaning no more stopping mid-recipe
- Converter tool allows you to easily convert milliliters to teaspoons, ounces to grams, and more
Review: At first I was not sure why I would possibly need anything besides my iPad and a couple of good recipe apps but the more I use the Key Ingredient Recipe Reader the more I like it. I love that it tilts up so you don't even really need to touch it once you start cooking or baking. So, even though it can be wiped clean, I did not have to worry about picking it up and getting my messy fingers all over it. The screen has just the right amount of brightness and the font on the recipes is perfect making it very easy to read. I found it pretty easy to use. I had to play around with it just a little bit and experiment with the website but I found this to be an exciting way to see what all the Recipe Reader has to offer as opposed to frustrating.
I have started converting my paper cookbooks to my Key Ingredient account and it is so nice to see my bookshelf space grow! The Key Ingredient website itself is really great. You can search for recipes, follow contributors, and even submit your own recipes. You can also add the "cookmark" button to your toolbar so you can easily add recipes from any website. Syncing is really quick so you can start cooking from your Recipe Reader in no time. There was options to upgrade the service; however, I would have liked to see these options free considering the cost of the Reader. I can certainly make good use out of the free options and if I do decide to upgrade to get unlimited private recipes and cookbooks, options to take picture and upload recipes, and more it will only cost $19.99 a year.
The only area for improvement is the battery life. It does not last as long as I would like but I did not have any trouble getting through a recipe. This is not a big deal and is not a reason not to buy the product, however, because all the positives definitely outweigh this small issue.
