Okay, I know Thanksgiving is supposed to be all about pies, but if you are looking for something different for the holiday, why not make a cake! This adorable turkey cake is really easy to make and it does not require a whole lot of baking either (you cheat and use half of a pre-baked rum cake!)
You will need:
Tortuga Mini Rum Cake (they come in sets of 6 but you can gift the rest or freeze them for later)
Buttercream frosting - see my Buttercream recipe
Wilton Decorating Tip Set /#18 Star & Tip1
Decorating bag & couplers
Sports Ball Pan Set
Cupcake pan
Your favorite cake mix
Two pieces of candy corn
Fruit Roll up
Two mini marshmallows
Brown, orange, and yellow food coloring
Toothpicks
Bake cake in half of the ball pan mold as well as 1 cupcake according to cake mix directions (you will have extra so you may want to make some extra cupcakes) and allow to cool completely. Meanwhile, prepare buttercream.
Cut the Rum Cake in a little more than half and place on a decorative board or tray. Color 1/4 of the buttercream yellow, 1/4 orange, and 1/2 brown. Following the natural grooves of the cake as outlines, alternate rows of colors using the #18 tip.
Frost the ball cake with brown icing and place directly in front of the rum cake. Ice cupcake with brown frosting. Place some toothpicks onto the edge of the cupcake and secure it on its side on top of the ball cake. Secure two mini marshmallows using frosting as "glue" onto to the cupcake and make two dots using the #1 tip and brown frosting. Push two pieces of candy corn slightly into the cupcake as a beak and cut the fruit roll up to simulate a wattle. Place wattle on the cupcake and have it drape across the frosting on the ball cake, securing it with the frosting.
Totally easy, right!!
