Cruising for Cake: Cake Boss on the Norwegian Breakaway

If you’re a Cake Mom, or simply a lover of cakes, you’ve probably heard of Buddy Valastro, baker extraordinaire. What you may not know is that Buddy has just opened a new location, onboard Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Norwegian Breakaway. TLC’s finest baker Buddy, also known as the ‘Cake Boss’, brings his expertise to the seven seas in the form of Carlo’s Bake Shop, which is an extension and expansion of his original bakery in New Jersey.

Buddy had the opportunity to host the christening of the Norwegian Breakaway in April 2013, which was aptly titled “Norwegian Breakaway Rocks NYC”. He promoted his bake shop during this celebration, giving us a few small tidbits and previews of what to expect, which really whet America’s palate for the famous baked goods. He also happened to be the perfect host, engaging the audience and garnering excitement for the new megaship.

Carlo’s Bake Shop

The shop is the perfect confectionary offering for a cruise ship. It affords passengers the opportunity to pre-order a special-made cake for onboard celebrations, such as birthdays, baby showers, and more. The shop’s professionals offer cupcake decoration classes, curated by Buddy, in addition to the delightful cookies, cakes, pies, mousses, and other desserts.

Experience

During the 2-Day Pre-Inaugural cruise in May, I was lucky enough to experience this new bakery first-hand, along with several of my peers. We had been dying to try to the cannoli that Buddy raves about in many episodes, so I got a vanilla, chocolate and dark chocolate peanut butter cannoli. I even grabbed a few chocolate cupcakes, because they looked too good to resist in the store. Each flavorful bite just fed my confection addiction even more. In addition, the price was very reasonable, coming to just around twelve dollars for all four treats, which is quite the deal for four delicacies from a famous baker.
