Can you believe Daylight Savings Time is almost here? That's right, on November 3rd it is time to change those clocks back. Fire departments also recommend that you use Daylight Savings as a reminder to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. My father was a firefighter and he always preached the importance of the battery changes. It can be a literal life saver:
- 38% of fatal fires occur in homes without working smoke alarms
- 24% occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate, frequently due to dead or missing batteries
I know you may think that a fire would never happen to you, but a couple of bucks and a few minutes of your time to change the batteries is well worth the peace of mind of making sure you, your family, and your pets are safer.

Review: I was very excited when I received an Energizer safety kit. Aside from the Energizer batteries (my favorite brand), I was really excited about the Kidde combination smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector. It makes perfect sense to keep them together in one unit and the best part is that it is a voice alarm and it provides a clear warning of fire or carbon monoxide! So, rather than a simple disorienting, high pitch alarm it provides you with exactly what the unit is detecting (i.e, a voice system that states "FIRE, FIRE" or "WARNING! CARBON MONOXIDE") followed by the alarm so you are certain to hear no matter what other noise is happening in the house and can wake you up if you are sleeping. The Energizer LED Safety Light is really cool as well. The light is really bright and there are additional features such as a emergency checklist, a place to write local emergency numbers, and an attached whistle. Plus, it can be powered by a variety of different batteries so you don't have to worry about not having the right ones on hand when you need it most. I must say I am feeling much better prepared for emergencies thanks to this kit!
