Lovable Labels Review and Giveaway!

Posted on 18:35 by Unknown

It is hard to believe that the school year is already winding down. Although you may picture lazy summer days with lots of rest and relaxation, if you have small kids like me then you know it is much more likely to expect long days of sports, camps, and get-togethers. Lovable Labels wants to be there for your child throughout the summer socialization and wants to make sure that your little one has all of their beloved items clearly tagged as their own.

Lovable Labels offers personalized, durable labels and tags that are waterproof, dishwasher and microwave safe, washer and dryer safe, sun safe, bleach safe, and temperature safe.  They offer a wide variety of different labels in a fabulous assortment of designs sure to please any child's personality!  If your child is older and would prefer to do without cutesy icons, then there are a great selection of colors available as well. Some of  their label offerings include:

  • Regular labels - perfect for just about any hard surface
  • Slimline labels - smaller versions of regular labels designed for smaller objects such as pencils, hairbrushes, etc
  • Shoe labels - make with durable "perma-grip" backing and a built-in protective cover
  • Press n' Stick Clothing Dots - label your child's clothes without ironing or sewing
If you are sending your child to overnight camp this year, then you may find that you will need to label everything that they pack. Lovable Labels has created an Ultimate Camp Pack with a collection of stickers that will allow you to tag everything your child will need to include clothing, shoes, water bottles, toiletries, and more. Included in the pack are 15 Regular Labels, 40 Slimline Labels, 6 sets of Shoe Labels, 72 Press & Stick Clothing Dots in three different sizes, 2 Bag Tags, and 12 Square Labels.

Review:   I really love how you can select a theme for your labels. Each type of label is different, but the theme remains constant throughout the Camp Pack. I was able to review a Camp Pack in the "Diva" design which fit my daughter's personality completely. Not only did she love the purples and pinks, but the icons also suited her.  I was a little shocked by the price ($44.95 for the Camp Pack) but when I received the labels, I realized that these are not your average set of labels. They are extremely durable and very sticky. I tested out the clothing labels and they not only stuck perfectly to the tags of her clothing, but they also endured washing and drying without showing any signs of wear.  The Bag Tags are great too and also fit in with the "Diva" theme.  I think the amount of stickers that were included in this pack were perfect for a child who is going away to camp and  you would probably have many left over which can be used to label all those supplies when the new school year begins.

Buy it here: You can purchase the Camp Pack from the Lovable Labels website for $44.95. Enter the code CAMP1316 at checkout and receive $5 off any $25 or more (before taxes and shipping) -valid through June 30th, 2013.

Lucky Leaf Recipe and Pinterest Contest Announcement!

Posted on 18:59 by Unknown
Spring has officially sprung! Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming and Lucky Leaf is serving up some delicious recipes and kicking off the “Good Things Come to Those Who Pin” Pinterest contest. They are giving you an opportunity to win one of 13 amazing prizes for sharing what inspires you this season. The grand prize is $500 and two additional winners will receive $200. They will also pick 10 finalists to win a Lucky Leaf gift pack.  Check out the rules below and enter to win beginning 5/1.  Enter here and good luck: http://bit.ly/10CUUxj

Recipe: Lemony Blueberry Layered Pie

Ingredients

  • 19-inch graham cracker crust
  • 18-ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 114-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • ¼cup powdered sugar
  • 13.4-ounce box instant lemon pudding mix
  • 2teaspoons fresh lemon zest
  • ¼cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 121-ounce can LUCKY LEAF® Premium Blueberry Pie Filling

Instructions

Combine cream cheese, condensed milk and powdered sugar in a large bowl. Using an electric mixer, mix at medium speed for 1-2 minutes, until smooth. Add pudding mix, lemon zest and lemon juice; mix until well blended.

Spoon about half of the LUCKY LEAF Premium Blueberry Pie Filling evenly into bottom of graham cracker crust. Spoon lemon-filling mixture on top and spread evenly. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour.

Spoon remaining Lucky Leaf Premium Blueberry Pie Filling on top just before serving. Garnish with fresh lemon zest if desired.

Results: This was seriously one of the easiest and quickest desserts - and it is a no-bake!  I did not have a lemon handy so I omitted the lemon zest and used lemon juice instead and it was really tasty. It would have tasted even better with the lemon zest so if I make it again I will definitely not stray from the original recipe. The contrast between the tart lemon and sweet blueberry was perfect and it was all neutralized thanks to the graham cracker crust.  I did find that it set nicely over night so you may want to make this a day ahead of time though is not required.

Mother's Day Gift Idea!

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Parenthood: 101 Heartwarming and Humorous Stories about the Joys of Raising Children of All Ages is one of the newest editions of the beloved Chicken Soup for the Soul books.  It contains a wide variety of stories, quotes, and whimsical cartoons that speak to every parent.  The book is organized into the following chapters:

  1. Becoming a Family
  2. All in a Day's Work
  3. Is There a Manual for This?
  4. Parenting Faux Pas
  5. Stop and Smell the Roses
  6. Learning from Each Other
  7. Treasured Moments
  8. From the Mouths of Babes
  9. What Goes Around Comes Around
  10. Love Conquers All
  11. Saying Thank You
  12. Giving Them Wings to Fly
Review: This is a really fun edition and is really perfect for parents of children in every development stage.  I have been really stressed lately and I found that these short and lighthearted stories were not only a really great stress-reliever, but they also helped me appreciate the day-to-day fun of being a parent. I really enjoyed the "Is There a Manual for This?" chapter.  I found myself well prepared for having infants  - after all there are hundreds of books available. However, as my children have gotten older, I have frequently asked myself that very question. From discussing the birds and the bees to dealing with issues of popularity, I found that these stories hit close to home.  No matter what stage of development your children are in, you will likely find some stories that you too can relate to.

Just Bee Review and Giveaway!

Posted on 15:59 by Unknown

Just Bee products use the science of scent to support individual "well-beeing". The company uses original scents and works to be eco-friendly and promotes getting back to the basics with both their products and their packaging. Products include Hand Balm, Hand & Body Balm, Sea Salt Scrub, Goat Soap, Lip Balm, Homekeepers Hand & Body Soap, Homekeepers Hand & Body Lotion, Stain Lifter, Dryer Bags, and Laundry Soap.

Review: I was given samples of the Just Bee Lip Balm and Hand Balm to review. The packaging is definitely basic; however, I could care less about all the bells and whistles when it comes to packaging as long as the product is good.  The simple, homemade packaging helps, I assume, keep the costs down so I am all for it!

Lately, my hands have been really dry and I cannot get enough of hand creams so I was looking forward to trying the Hand Balm. The product is thicker than creams and has a very faint, somewhat non-nondescript, scent. It rubs in very easily into my skin  and leaves them feeling really soft and not at all greasy. When they are feeling dry and rough the Hand Balm is a real treat for my skin!

I really love the Lip Balm. Not all lip balms are created equal and this is definitely one of the best I have tried in a long time. It is such a smooth application and my lips felt immediately softened and hydrated. Some lip balms can leave a sticky residue but there was nothing but smoothness thanks to the blend of bee's wax and Vaseline. There is also a flavoring oil listed as an ingredient but I found it to be fairly tasteless - not that I mind at all because the last thing I want to do when I am trying to fight chapped lips is to constantly lick them!

Buy it here: You can purchase Just Bee products from the company website.

Vectra Flea & Tick Free Product Offer and Sweeps Announcement

Posted on 02:00 by Unknown

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Vectra flea & tick control for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

 photo Preview_zps9a80e74c.jpg

I love spring but I really don't like the flea and tick aspect of the season. After having an infestation of fleas this past year (which, by the way, my daughter is allergic to) I have been very careful to always make sure my dogs have flea protection.  Vectra is available through your local vetrinarian and offers dogs long-lasting, broad-spectrum protection from fleas, ticks, and other dangerous vectors.  It kills on contact and begins reducing flea feeding in just 5 minutes, killing fleas within 6 hours. Vectra protects for a full month and remains effective even after your dog gets wet.  They also offer a really cool reminder service through their website so you will never miss a dose again. This is what happened to us this year and we really paid the price for not getting our dogs their flea medicine.

Check out how Buttercup is enjoying her flea-free spring so far! Yes, she is laying on a child's picnic table:

Photo: Now that the kids have outgrown their picnic table Buttercup has taken it upon herself to claim it. I guess she feels she is closer to the sun this way?!

Sweepstakes & Freebie Offer:  You can enter Vectra's Protect the Love Facebook Sweepstakes and be entered to win a $100 gift card to be used at your dog's next vet visit! A gift card will be rewarded every week. Plus, just be entering you can print out a coupon for a free dose of Vectra Flea and Tick Control. Find out more about the free dose of Vectra flea & tick control. What a deal! You can't go wrong!

OOFOS Review and Giveaway!

Posted on 19:05 by Unknown

OOFOS are not your average pair of shoes. They are designed to give you an "OO" sensation by actually rejuvenating your body. There is some serious technology behind these shoes! Their proprietary "OOfoam" compound absorbs 37% more impact to help relieve stress and fatigue from the body giving your body the opportunity to recover and recharge.  As part of their Make YOO Feel Better mission, they are making efforts to bring the Feel the OO experienced to more and more communities in 2013.  They offer men's and women's styles that include the OOahh Slide, the OOriginal Thong, and the OOcloog Clog.

Review: When I first read about OOFOS I truly had my doubts. I have never heard of a shoe that claimed to rejuvenate you. Typically, I think of removing shoes and kicking back as a way to recover, not put shoes on. However, I tried to keep an open mind and see how they worked and I was truly amazed. I received a pair of OOriginal Thongs. The first thing I noticed when I put them on was a built in arch that focused on the inner part of my foot. I have other shoes that have this feature, but not quite as prominent.

They were definitely comfortable but that is not what shocked me the most.  I know I have mentioned before that I have been having some pain and muscle problems. Well, I finally was diagnosed with fibromyalgia which is a pain disorder that can cause extreme pain throughout the body. Most recently, I started to experience deep pain in my feet. I have been dealing with the pains throughout my body for awhile but I have found the foot pain to be nearly intolerable. When I tried on the OOFOS and started walking, I almost broke out into tears of joy because the design of the shoe provided me with instant pain relief in my feet. Not only that, but the longer I wear them the more relief I begin to feel throughout my body.  I know it may be hard to believe but there is something about these shoes that are really amazing. Now I wear them around the house as if they were slippers and once the temperature warms up I will be wearing them outside of the house as well.

The only thing that I don't like about the shoe is the placement of the thong. I think I may have needed a larger size because it is causing a bit too much pressure in between my toes. I was not expecting that I would be wearing these as often as I am so in hindsight I would have probably requested the OOahh Slide because I don't wear flip flop styles when I am doing a lot of walking.  Other than this, I can say nothing but good things about this shoe and would highly recommend it!

Yum-Vs Review and Giveaway!

Posted on 17:04 by Unknown

Yum-V's provides a range of nutritional supplements for children. Their vitamins give your kids optimal nutritional value in delicious flavor options. All of Yum-V's jellies are all-natural, allergen free, certified kosher and suitable for vegetarians. Their Jellies are made of pectin rather than gelatin which has the following advantages:
  • Pectin is softer than gelatin and has a preferred taste
  • Pectin does not stick to teeth
  • Pectin is a nutritional fiber and works to enhance the bio-availability of the vitamins and minerals
They also offer vitamins and supplements in the form of chocolate flavored bears. They come in a unique blister pack tray system that enables the product to be stable at room temperature without the use of preservatives. These are also all-natural, gluten free and certified kosher.

Review:  We were given Probiotics and Vitamin D to review. My kids are pretty good at swallowing pills but vitamins are just far too large for them so we typically rely on gummy vitamins. The Vitamin D gummies were pretty tasty. They were comparable in taste to their current brand of gummy vitamins but had a different texture. They were much less chewy, but I mean that in a good way. Our other brand uses gelatin so you really have to chew them and, yes, they do get stuck in your teeth. Yum V's jellies do not stick in your teeth and I prefer these over the other brand because Yum V's are all-natural. It really is contradictory to give your kids vitamins with harmful additives!

The Pr0biotics were kind of fun - I have never come across chocolate supplements before! My daughter recently had an ear infection and has been on an antibiotic. These Probiotics can be taken once a day for normal use or twice a day an hour before or after an antibiotic. She really liked the taste which was white chocolate without too much sweetness and it helped keep her regular through the antibiotic use.

Green Clean Review and Giveaway!

Posted on 18:22 by Unknown

It is Earth Day tomorrow! While you may be accustomed to making New Year's resolutions, Earth Day can be a great day to start a earth-friendly resolution. If you need an idea, you may want to consider removing the toxins from your normal cleaning routine and start a Green Clean resolution.  Leslie Reichert, the Green Cleaning Coach, is dedicated to helping people learn how to effectively clean your house without causing damage to yourself, your family, and the environment. Here are some of my favorites from the cleaning kit I received:

Eco Sponge - This sponge is from Germany and uses the technology of friction instead of chemicals. It can be used to remove soap scum in your shower and also for cleaning sinks and countertops - all without chemicals. It also works on dry erase boards!

Review:   We have a large dry-erase calendar that I fill out weekly to keep us organized. I have been frustrated with the board because sometime it does not erase easily and can leave it looking messy and dirty. The marker was really easy to erase with this sponge. Plus, I love that there are so many uses for one sponge! It is very comparable to the Magic Eraser; however, I felt that the Eco Sponge was of better quality and will probably last a lot longer.
Before

After

Blue Cloth - This cloth takes the place of your "blue glass cleaner and paper towels". By using just water and this cloth you can clean your windows without any streaks, smears, or lint. You can use this on anything you would normally use a glass cleaner (that's why it's blue). It's great for stainless steel, glass fronted appliances and even granite countertops.

Review: I really had my doubts about this one. After all, how can water and cloth clean better than window cleaner? Well, it can and it did! I was absolutely amazed at how well this cloth works. It not only cleaned but there were less streaks than when I clean with actual glass cleaner. I seriously never have to buy glass cleaner or paper towels again!

Before cleaning - my bathroom mirror was spotted and dirty

After cleaning with the Blue Cloth - clean and streak-free!

Skoy Cloths - Just one Skoy cloth takes the place of 15 rolls of paper towels - yes, ROLLS. They are a cross between a sponge and a paper towel that you can continually reuse. They can last up to 6 weeks, but can last much longer as well with proper care (pop them in the washer and dryer).
Review: I used the Skoy cloth on various surfaces to see how it measure up compared to paper towels. It worked great for cleaning kitchen and bathroom surfaces. I love that they can be cleaned in a washing machine. Since I clean different rooms on different days, this allowed me to clean it in between different uses so there was no cross-contamination. It also worked well as a washcloth. It was soft enough to be used on my children's hands (in fact, it is softer than the washcloths we usually use!).  It also worked well to clean up spills. I found it to be very absorbent and was quickly able to soak up spills and then easily wring it out in the sink. In fact, it worked better than a paper towel because 1 Skoy cloth cleaned up the entire mess. It would have easily taken 3-4 paper towels to do the same job.

Buy it here: You can purchase green cleaning supplies through the Green Cleaning Coach website.

Lysol Touch of Foam Review

Posted on 19:35 by Unknown

I trust Lysol to remove germs from the air and surfaces so it only makes sense to me that they would offer a handwash. New Lysol Touch of Foam hand wash with dual effect is formulated to be soft on skin and hard on germs. The thick, rich, creamy lather works on contact to kill 99.9% of germs and it has moisturizer enriched micro-bubbles leave skin feeling soft. Antimicrobial properties are built in to protect the pump and resist odor-causing bacteria.   The non-drip hand wash is available in the following scents: Vanilla Orchid, Cherry in Bloom, and Wild Berry Bliss.

Review: I insist on using foaming handwash because I feel like it is easier to rinse off, especially considering I have two kids who like to hurry when they have to wash their hands. I received the Vanilla Orchid variety and absolutely LOVED the scent. It is so fresh and great for spring. It had one of those scents that make you want to keep sniffing your hands after you wash. The foam was about as foamy as you can get. You can literaly flip your hand upside down and it will stick but spreads over your hands and washed off nicely. I was a little disappointed with the moisturizing claim because my hands felt extremly dry immediately after use and I had to follow handwashing with lotion to rehydrate.  If it was a little more gentle on my hands then I would have no trouble switching to this brand.

I was provided with a sample as a BzzAgent. All views expressed are my own.

Combat Ant Bait Review and Giveaway

Posted on 19:00 by Unknown

There are so many things I love about spring, but our annual ant infestation is definitely not one of them.  Since I have dogs,  I cannot just place ant traps all over the floor because I am afraid they will eat them. I had the chance to review Combat last year and was amazed at how well the product worked, but a bit unhappy with the design of the trap. So, when I learned about new Combat Ant and Roach Killing Bait Traps I thought these would better fit my lifestyle and hopefully help get rid of those pesky ants.

The same killing power found in Combat Gels is now available in a new discreet design. These thin bait strips have an adhesive baking that makes it easy to hide out of sihgt and reach of children and pets. Hooray! They are easy to apply and leave no mess. The unique formula contains food and water that roaches and ants seek, combined with Fipronil, a fast acting insecticide that begins killing within hours once the insect has come into contact with the bait.  They are designed to kill the nest and colony that are beyond reach - attacking the source of the pest problem.

Review: Ant season is around the corner and, unfortunately, I don't get much of a warning before the situation is out of control. Although we have not started with an infestation I decided to do a preemptive strike and place the strips in the common areas we have problems. I could not detect any scent to the product and they are much easier to hide than common traps. Plus, I don't have to worry about my kids or dogs getting to them. The adhesive could have been a little stronger. It stuck well to plastic but I had a little bit of difficulty getting it to stick to wood surfaces.  Well, time will tell if this is an effective ant bait product...

Buy it here: Combat Killing Bait Strips are available in 5 count Ant and 10 count Roach varieties, and can be found at major retailers including Walmart, Home Depot, Target, Family Dollar, Dollar General, and Publix.

Connect here: You can find out more through the Combat YouTube video.

Combat $1,000 Sweepstakes: During the months of April through June, Combat brand is hosting an online sweepstakes where entrants can learn more about Combat Bait Strips and become eligible to win one of three $250 Visa gift gift cards and one $1,000 grand prize Visa card. Enter here!

Kaeng Raeng Detox Review

Posted on 19:11 by Unknown

Have you heard about liquid detoxing yet? Detoxes are meant to rejunivate your body when you are feeling bloated and/or fatigued. Kaeng Raeng offers detoxes that can help you jumpstart weight loss, remove toxins, bolster immunity, improve digestion, enhance skin and hair quality, relieve bloating, and reduce cravings and overating.  You can choose your level:  The Beginner (for first time users -  most gentle formula), The Veteran (for those having done at least one detox - medium level intensity), or The Master (for regular detoxers).

Choose your timeline - either 3 or 6 day. The 6-Day program is ideal for those trying to lose weight. You'll receive 3 packets per day (9 or 18 total) of the detox program you choose. The program is straight forward: just drink one pouch per meal time (3 times per day) in addition to raw fruits and vegetables. Simply add one pouch to 24-32oz of liquid. You can use water, juice, or non-dairy milk. For best results, just add water. You can also blend it with liquid, frozen fruit, or ice for a thicker sweeter smoothie.

Review: I received a packet of "Joyful" a strawberry, raspberry, and pineapple mixture to sample.  It was very easy to mix and I like the idea that these little packets are portable so you can take them wherever you go. The powder does settle if you don't drink it all at once so I am glad that I put it into a shaker cup so I could keep remixing it. It tasted fruity, but still powdery. I mixed mine with water but if I were to do a full detox I would probably mix it with juices. I did find that the colder the drink, the better it tasted.  I used the one packet the day after Easter and I am not sure if it was the detox drink or the atypical way I was eating on Easter but I did find myself in the bathroom quite a bit. I am guessing that the three day detox would keep you in there a lot as well and I am not sure, especially since I have a sensitive stomach, if I would choose to detox during the week when I work.  One drink did fill me up, in fact it took me quite a while to get through it. I was always worried that I would be extremely hungry on a detox but my appetite was satiated with just one drink.

This is definitely an option if I decide to do a full detox; however, the cost is a consideration. I have done some research on pure vegetable juicing detoxes and those cost about $14 a day while the three-day Kaeng Raeng detox costs $69.99 plus the cost of any juices and vegetables you need to purchase to supplement the drinks.

Buy it here: You can order Kaeng Raeng detoxes from their website.

Sambazon Review and Giveaway!

Posted on 16:03 by Unknown

I have been doing a lot of research lately on healthy eating and have been trying to transform my lifestyle into a healthier one. Yes, there are a lot of "fad" diets out there, but for the most part they are good at temporarily helping you lose pounds but they are rarely healthy.  It seems like the best way to lose weight and be healthy is by eating lots of vegetables and fruits. I have also read quite a bit about the benefits of juicing and the benefits of drinking your veggies in fruits rather than just eating them. So, when I found out about Sambazon, I thought it would be a good opportunity to see just how good fruit and vegetable juices really are.  Sambazon products come in both juice and smoothie varieties and are USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, Ecocert Fair Trade, vegan, and gluten free. They can be used as a snack or a light meal replacement.

Review: I was given some product coupons and some other great Sambazon products and headed to my local Whole Foods Co-op to see what varieties they offered.

Acai with Blueberry & Pomegranate was a delicious blend of fruits. The Acai and blueberry helped to decrease the tartness of the pomegranate. It was one of the most delicious juice blends I have ever tasted.

Energy - Acai Berry + Yerba Mate + Guarana provided some natural caffeine. It had a great taste and was sweet (though not quite as sweet as the Acai one mentioned above). It was a nice drink to consume in the morning and was a nice and healthy way to get the day started.

Protein -  Chocolate + Almond + Coconut Milk smoothie is a vegan whole food protein drink that includes over 100 Acai berries and is made with organic whole food protein to help build lean muscle. It also contains healthy omegas to help keep you full longer.  It tasted amazing  - almost so good it was hard to believe it was good for you. The chocolate, almond, and coconut all blended well together yet each flavor could also be distinctly tasted. This one is definitely a treat!

Super Greens features a mixture of Kale & Ginger that provides two full servings of fruits and vegetables and over 120 Acai berries in each bottle. To be honest, I was dreading trying this one and put it off until the last minute. I figured a green drink with ginger (an ingredient that I really dislike the taste of) would be pretty darn gross. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was! The Acai berries gave it most of the flavor and while it was not as sweet as the other varieties, it was really yummy! In fact, this was probably my favorite since I need to get more veggies in my diet and this is a painless way to do it!

Buy it here: You can use the Sambazon store locator to find a retail location near you. Although it did not appear on my search, I was pleased to see that there were also a couple of varieties at my local Walmart!

Win it here:

I was provided with the above mentioned products for the purpose of facilitating this post. All views expressed are my own.

TrueManCave - Father's Day Idea!

Posted on 16:01 by Unknown
Sponsored post

My husband and I married pretty young and when we bought our house I was a bit worried about him bringing in all of his "decor" from his apartment. Very quickly, he realized that we needed a finished basement so he could have his very own "man cave". In case you are unsure of the "man cave" terminology, it is a room (most frequently a basement) that a wife allows her husband to keep as his own (basically so the NFL themed furniture and neon signs can stay out of the living room).

TruManCave is the go-to internet site for all things manly...making it a perfect place to look for some awesome father's day gifts. Not only do they have a nice selection of neon clocks, they have some great products that will encourage your man to have some fun with his friends. They offer some pretty awesome tailgaiting supplies such as tables tailgate party games.

Some of their more popular products are their cornhole products. If you have never heard of the game then I certainly apologize for the unfortunate vision that may have come into your head. Cornhole is a tailgaiting game where you toss beanbags onto a structure and try to get them to either enter the hole or stick on the wood.  As you may have guessed, the game can get more entertaining with intoxication.  TruManCave offers a nice selection of cornhole tables and bean bags so your man can show his team spirit while at play. Other great products offered include casino products and dart boards - everything your man will need to make his cave his own.
